Cut CFE cable leaves Bacalar communities without power

Bacalar, Q.R. — Residents in several communities in the municipality of Bacalar have finally had their power restored. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) repaired the failure after days of residential complaints.

Dozens of people took to the federal highway earlier this week in a blockade protesting the lack of CFE repairs that left the far western communities in the dark. Hundreds also had their water supply affected since the pumps rely on power to distribute.

The effected Bacalar communities of Reforma, Altos de Sevilla, Paraíso and Buena Esperanza, among others that border with Campeche, had their power restored late Thursday after the CFE sent a team to locate the problem, which was eventually found to be a cut line.

A CFE team finally traced the source of the power outage to section 6 of the Maya Train where workers accidentally cut the main underground cable that supplies area power.
