Crew abandons plane in Chiapas carrying 340 kilos of cocaine

Tres Picos, Chiapas — A small plane carrying 340 kilos of cocaine has been seized by the Ministry of National Defense. In a statement, the agency reported the plane in Mexican airspace on October 8.

The Comprehensive Air Surveillance System of the Ministry of National Defense detected an unidentified aircraft from South America and alerted the Helicopter and Land Reaction Forces of the Territorial Commands of the Mexican Army.

It the ordered the Mexican Air Force to take off two Embraer EMB-145 planes, three UH-60 helicopters and two T-6C planes to follow up on the suspicious aircraft.

Due to radar and visual contact, it was observed that the plane landed 14 kilometers southwest of Tres Picos, Chiapas, where a group of individuals chose to abandon the cargo and aircraft after realizing the proximity of military personnel.

Members of the Mexican Army and Air Force inspected the plane and carried out reconnaissance on the outskirts of the area, locating various packages weighing approximately 340 kilograms of cocaine, seizing both the drugs and plane.
