Cozumel welcomes MSC World America on maiden voyage

Cozumel, Q.R. — The Island of Cozumel welcomed the MSC World America cruise ship. The cruise ship stopped at the island Wednesday on its maiden voyage through the Caribbean.

The MSC World America cruise ship, a recently built vessel operated by MSC Crociere SA, belongs to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). Mayor José Luis Chacón says the arrival of the ship is a sign of Cozumel’s importance to cruise tourism.

“We look forward to welcoming you as you deserve and serving you during your visits,” the mayor said during the traditional plaque exchange. Ship Captain Dino Sagani welcomed the mayor and the group of municipal officials who accompanied him.

He also praised the destination’s natural beauty and assured that Cozumel will continue to lead its routes, as one of the most important destinations in the Caribbean.

The vessel has a capacity for 6,762 passengers. The ship docked at the Punta Langosta pier on Wednesday morning.
