Costa Maya — A car that was left unattended while its driver called a tow truck was stripped of valuables, including the tires. The car, which was a leased unit from Cancun, was found without tires after thieves made off with them.
Over the long weekend, Fernando F had rented the car and had driven from Cancun to Mahahual where he spent the holidays. While traveling the Cafetal-Mahahual highway, he reportedly lost control of the car and crashed into highway brush.
Since he was not injured and the car only with minor damage, he left it parked on the side of the road and returned to Mahahual for mechanic and tow truck assistance. Upon returning to his vehicle, he saw that it had been stripped of its tires. Inside, thieves also made off with the car’s accessories.
