Costa Maya ejidos again protesting train stop change

Costa Maya, Q.R. — Ejidos from Laguna Om have blocked a Costa Maya section of the federal highway in exchange for five minutes of López Obrador’s time. The ongoing dispute between the ejidos and state authorities of the Maya Train has been extended to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Protesting ejidos say they will continue with the road block until the President listens to them. They are demanding his ear after, according to reports, they were “promised” the stop would be returned to Nicolás Bravo, however, that has not happened.

They have been protesting a Maya Train stop (not station) move for nearly two months. According to the angry group, the stop was moved from the Nicolás Bravo area to benefit a construction company, Groupo Posadas.

Over the weekend, ejidos were out with a large sign that extended across the entire road protesting the move and asking to be heard by the President given the lack of response from local authorities.

At the end of March, Governor Mara Lezama addressed the disgruntled group telling them, “I cannot promise what I am not going to fulfill.”
