Cool temperatures recorded in Maya Zone during latest cold snap

Costa Maya, Q.R. — The Mayan Zone in the south of the state recorded the lowest temperatures during the recent passing of Cold Front 23. The system, which arrived from the US Thursday, finally passed over the Yucatan Peninsula late Sunday.

It was early Sunday morning when the state’s lowest temperature of 12C (53F) was reported by the State Coordination of Civil Protection. The State agency reported the cool dip in the Mayan zone of Lázaro Cárdenas, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Bacalar.

The warmest early Sunday morning temperature was recorded in Isla Mujeres with 19C followed by Playa del Carmen with 18C.

The three-day cold weather snap saw nighttime temperatures take a steep dive, but generally recover during the day. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) is forecasting the possibility of the arrival of another cold front, number 25, for later this week.
