Bacalar, Q.R. — A company has submitted the request for permits for the construction of a resort along the Bacalar Lagoon. The interested parties have requested the authorization of the Unified Technical Document of the Karma Hotel project before the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources for the Change of Land Use in Forest Lands on an 8.2-hectare property.
The company, Karma Hotel SA de CV, began their procedures on July 7, with the goal of building and operating a tourist development that consists of 52 suites, a pool, dock and deck over the water, paddle court, gym, walkways and green area, among others.
The company says they will generate 49 temporary jobs during the construction of the hotel and another 20 permanent positions once the hotel is operating.
They add that construction for the project will take three years and that “…a total of 2,466 hectares will be exploited, corresponding to 29.99% of the property’s surface and that includes a forest area with other current uses (existing road and cocal ).”
If approved, the resort would be built on the shores of the Laguna de los Siete Colores.
