Compact car left wedged under semi trailer in highway collision outside Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — The driver of a compact car was taken to hospital Saturday night from the scene of a two vehicle accident. Paramedics and police were deployed in response to reports of a car under a semi.

The accident happened outside Puerto Aventuras when the driver slammed into the back of a parked semi. The front of his old-model compact Chevy car was found wedged under the trailer.

The driver was left trapped inside.

The unnamed driver was heading toward Tulum when he came upon the parked unit along the federal 307 highway.

The man was rescued alive by emergency personnel and taken to a Playa del Carmen hospital for medical treatment.

Witnesses said they watched as the driver lost control of the car and failed to notice the truck. Initial reports indicate that the semi trailer was parked on the side of the road.

Due to the force of the impact, the compact car was left wedged under the trailer. Firemen were able to extract the driver alive for a hospital transfer. The extent of his injuries are not known.
