Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police were called to an early morning accident Tuesday on the El Tintal highway. The driver of a semi ended up partially jackknifed across the road after falling asleep at the wheel.
In an attempt to correct his swerve, he ended up in the ditch. Police found his cab blocking part of the highway and his trailer in roadside greenery. The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. when the driver was heading for Merida.
Due to the time of day, traffic was not affected by the mishap. Emergency services were requested, however, to assist with correcting the semi. National Guard Highways assisted Civil Protection with the removal of the jackknifed semi.
