City says work along Fifth Avenue and Parque Fundadores progressing

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad city council reports work along Fifth Avenue and in Parque Fundadores is progressing.

The city reports 100 percent of the excavation work is complete in the section of streets 2 to 12 on Fifth Avenue and 95 percent complete on streets 12 to 14. The director of Public Works, José Luis Castillejos Gómez, reported that fiber optics will soon be installed in the section of Calle 14, while the introduction of underground electrical energy from street 2 to street 14 is 75 percent complete.

He says that 40 percent of the native trees have been planted, adding that the remodeling of the tourist area continues. Once finished, the area will have improved services such as electricity, drainage, internet and drinking water.

The government of Laura Beristain says the project will be an investment of 117 million peso in an effort to reactivate tourism.
