City formed 60 neighborhood police committees in 2019

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — During 2019, the government of Solidaridad formed 60 neighborhood police committees throughout the municipality. The committees were formed in colonies and subdivisions of Playa del Carmen and composed of residents who live in the areas.

According to the municipal government, the purpose of the committees is to maintain communication with the areas and meet their security needs.

“From the beginning of the administration, the municipal president instructed the formation of the committees. This system has allowed us to improve the link with the citizenry through the realization of preventive, recreational and informative activities, obtaining positive results in the prevention and reduction of criminal acts,” said Commander Jorge Robles Aguilar, head of the corporation.

Through the area of Citizen Participation and Crime Prevention of the Municipal Secretariat, these committees have been formed in subdivisions and colonies of Playa del Carmen and the Puerto Aventuras delegation as well as in rural areas such as Nuevo Noh Bec, Vida and Esperanza, Jacinto Canek, Cristo Rey, Los Sauces and the settlement of Las Torres where municipal police carry out surveillance rounds and maintain close proximity with the inhabitants to strengthen the link with society.

Every week, with the support of the members of the Neighborhood Police Committees, recreational activities are carried out where people are encouraged to form a healthy coexistence with neighbors and learn to improve security in their homes, monitor their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
