Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three people believed involved in human trafficking have been arrested in Playa del Carmen. On Wednesday, Municipal Police made the arrests after they were flagged down by a citizen.
Preventive Police were carrying out a surveillance tour in the Centro neighborhood when a person requested help and pointed out the location of a place in the Colosio neighborhood where they said they have women who are alleged victims of trafficking. The person was also able to provide characteristics of the alleged perpetrators, the Seguridad Pública Solidaridad (SSP) said in a report.
“With the information provided, police moved to the scene and arrested Oscar “N”, 45 from this state, Fabricio “N”, 48 and Ana “N”, 37 years old, both from Guadalajara. They met the described characteristics and attempted to flee aboard a Dodge Attitude brand vehicle.
“Five women were also protected by the corporation’s GEAVIG and a laptop and 17 cell phones marked with the women’s names and amounts of money were seized,” the SSP added in their statement.
Those now detained were placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office. The victims received the corresponding attention and support after being channeled by the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig).
The SSP did not say how the citizen came to know of the human trafficking ring being run out of the Playa del Carmen location.
