Citizen arrest gets PDC man charged in death of dog

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen man has been charged in the death of a dog after neighbors held him for police. The State Attorney General says Gabriel “N” is facing charges for “a crime against the environment and wildlife”.

They said that their first acts of investigation indicate that on July 5 of this year, the accused, Gabriel “N”, allegedly caused injuries with a knife to a canine named “Junior” on the streets of the Nicte-Há neighborhood. The event ultimately caused his death.

Following the incident, Gabriel “N” was detained by citizens. They informed the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), who, after inspecting the suspect, found a knife.

At the hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office was successful in having charges laid against Gabriel “N” “to the proceedings for acts possibly constituting crimes against the environment and wildlife, in addition to imposing the precautionary measure of preventive detention for the duration of the proceedings.”
