Chetumal, Q.R. — Water taxi service between Chetumal and Belize continues to grow with nearly 400 passengers in one week. On July 7 of 2022, the service reopened after a two year suspension due to the covid-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO) reported a high influx of tourists using the water service. According to Vagner Elbiorn Vega, the Director of Apiqroo, 227 visitors leaving Chetumal for San Pedro Belice were recorded.
On the return, the Fiscal Dock at Chetumal counted 174 passengers from the island to Chetumal.
The route connects Quintana Roo’s capital of Chetumal with the islands of San Pedro and Cayo Caulker, in Belize.
The 50-passenger capacity boats are owned by the Mexican company Water Jet International who offers the service five days per week.
