Charges laid against suspect accused of extorting taxi drivers

Cancun, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office reports the indictment against Jorge Luis “N” for aggravated extortion. The charge was handed down for extortion against a group of motorcycle taxi drivers.

Ongoing investigations indicate that the subject likely intimidated drivers in the union and left threatening messages along with a firearm projectile at the union offices. Police say he is accused of demanding payment of “protection money” and physically assaulting an operator as a pressure tactic.

Based on the case file, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested and obtained an arrest warrant from which was executed against Jorge Luis “N”. At the hearing, he was formally charged and ordered mandatory pretrial detention.

Police say Jorge Luis “N” has another pending case for drug dealing for the purpose of supplying.
