Cartel leader heading family business captured in municipality of Bacalar

Bacalar, Q.R. — Early Saturday, armed forces arrested Rubén “P” in the municipality of Bacalar. The arrest took place in the town of Xul-Ha after several home search operations.

Rubén “P” is reportedly the nephew of a cartel leader who leads the Caborca Cartel or Cártel de Caborca, a group linked to other cartels in the state of Sonora.

Rubén “P” is the designated operational chief of the Caborca Cartel in the state of Quintana Roo. He was taken into police custody over the weekend after several attempts at locating him.

He was captured by elements of the navy with the support of the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime. He was arrested from inside a private home in the town of Xul-Ha.

During his arrest, he is said to have identified himself as 40-year-old Lázaro López Alfaro. However, authorities were able to verify his real identity.

He has already been transferred to Mexico City where he was made available to federal authorities.

His brother, Rafael Caro Quintero, is currently being held in the maximum security prison of El Altiplano in the State of Mexico. In 2016, Rafael Caro Quintero founded the now defunct Guadalajara Cartel, but regrouped his forces to create a new criminal group.
