Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A car that slammed into a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole north of Playa del Carmen left two injured. The accident happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening on a stretch of Playa del Carmen-Puerto Morelos highway.

The driver of the private car was heading toward Playa del Carmen at the time of the accident. A burst tire that caused the driver to lose control at highway speed has been blamed for the crash that completely knocked down the CFE pole and set of lines.
Emergency personnel, including CFE, were called in since the pole landed across the highway. Firefighters also arrived at the scene to help with the situation. Both people from inside the car were transferred to Playa del Carmen hospital.

Traffic was backed up for nearly two hours Saturday night while authorities cleared the road of the damaged car, fallen pole and accident debris.
