Cancun, Q.R. — Due to the ongoing political situation in Peru, several flights into Cancun International have been canceled. According to Javier Aranda, the General Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), there have already been cancellations from Peru as a consequence of the political situation.
He said those cancellations will have an impact for the Mexican Caribbean, but not something that will influence the winter season.
“Always at the end of the day when we are traveling abroad and something happens in our country, it worries us. We want to return home, so in that sense, there will surely be concerns where people prefer to be at home, while they see how things are being resolved,” he said.
He said that any cancellation of flights to the Mexican Caribbean affects the region regardless of the circumstance and even though Peru is not a mass influx of visitors, it is still an important market.
“We cannot do much more than hope that things in Peru go well,” he added.
There are currently three flights per week arriving in Cancun from Lima, some of which, have been affected by the county’s ongoing political situation.
