Cancun International breaks previous single-day operations record

Cancun, Q.R. — Air traffic at the Cancun International Airport broke its previous record for single-day operations. On Saturday, airport managing company ASUR reported 567 operations, the highest since the covid pandemic began.

Spokesperson for the air terminal reported that of the 567 registered flights, 286 were arrivals, which from those, 197 were international. The airport also reported 281 departures, 193 of which, were abroad. Quintana Roo governor, Carlos Joaquin, also unveiled the new historic figures for the state.

President of the Association of Hotels of Cancun, Roberto Cintrón Gómez, explained that they anticipate an average occupancy rate of 88 percent during the holiday season, which officially began December 1.

He estimated that in Cancun, the demand for hotel rooms is likely to reach 87 percent, while Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres would reach between 80 and 90 percent.

Toni Chaves, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, also predicts similar figures saying hotels in Riviera Maya anticipate occupancy rates of between 80 and 90 percent.

State data shows that there are currently 205 hotels in operation with 51,741 rooms in use. Eight hotels remain closed due to the pandemic.
