Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun is getting ready for the arrival of thousands of spring break vacationers. Days before they are expected to begin landing, the municipality began posting warning ads to the U.S. students to be aware of Mexican laws.
“Pack the fun but don’t carry this stuff,” the poster reads before detailing illegal items in Mexico. “You are not allowed to carry on board drugs, firearms, explosives, flammable substances or fuels. Document sharp objects,” the poster details.
Most of the ads have been distributed to travel agencies who accommodate the spring break crowd. According to StudentCity, a website who says they offer the ultimate spring break experience, they list Cancun as their number one student spring break destination for 2023.
Earlier this month, an American Nascar driver was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after he was found with a handgun in his luggage at the Cancun International Airport at the end of January.
