Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — A Canadian man is facing charges of smuggling after being found with thousands of undeclared money. Authorities say Jerry “A” was arrested from the Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport in Puerto Vallarta after customs found the money.
According to the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), he has since been charged with smuggling. “Jerry “A” was arrested in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, for his probable responsibility in the commission of the crime of smuggling, provided for and sanctioned in the Federal Tax Code,” the FGR reported.
During a luggage inspection, customs found two cheques, one for $68,000 CAD and another for $80,000 CAD, both undeclared. They also found 30,260 pesos in cash as well as $3,500 USD in cash, also undeclared.
Jerry “A” was arrested early last week and presented before a judge January 3 who declared the arrest legal and issued the order to trial for the crime of smuggling.
As a precautionary measure, Jerry “A” will be in prison for the duration of his trial at the Preventive Detention Station in Puente Grande, Jalisco.
