Campos to file 14 complaints for 232 million in irregularities for the remodeling of Fifth Avenue

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal head Lili Campos says she intends to file 14 criminal complaints against the former mayor for 232 million peso. Campos says the complaints will be directed toward Playa del Carmen’s previous mayor, Laura Beristain.

Campos said during the 2019 review of the public account, irregularities in the amount of 232 million peso were found in the municipal patrimony in contracts for the remodeling of Fifth Avenue and Fundadores Park.

She also said that 483 complaints have already been filed with the Municipal Comptroller’s Officer for alleged acts of corruption of the previous administration. There are another 48 complaints filed for abuse of functions, electoral crimes, diversion of public resources and breach of contract due to a possible municipal loss of 103 million peso.

Campos said she intends to present the 14 new complaints to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for irregular agreements with different companies, as well as ghost contracts and purchase of material that was paid for, but that was never used or was not received.
