Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen mayor Lili Campos says she will push for the opening of childcare centres for working moms and dads in municipal hotels. Campos expressed her concern at the lack of childcare available to working parents.
During a morning meeting with the Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos (CROC), she said she was committed to opening daycare centres in hotels for the benefit of not only working parents, but also their children.
“One of the things that we are going to continue promoting for this next year, with all the hotels, is the generation of children’s stays (at their parent’s workplace),” she said adding that municipal officials want to put an end to continually hearing of latchkey kids.
“This is an offense against our children, for the working women and men who go out to work. If they leave their minor children at home alone, it is not because they want to, it is because they do not have someone to take care of them. It is because a nursery does not exist, or if there is one, it is very expensive,” she explained.
