Reynosa, Tamaulipas — Twelve people have been killed and another 16 injured after a bus rollover in Reynosa. The bus, which was transporting hospital patients from the IMSS of Reynosa to the city of Monterrey, rolled after the driver lost control.
The accident was reported at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday along the Reynosa-Monterrey highway when patients from the Mexican Institute of Social Security and their families were being taken to Monterrey for specialized medical consultations.
Preliminary reports say upon reaching a sharp curve, the driver lost control of the unit and overturned on its side, embedding a metal bar in the unit.
Civil Protection units from Reynosa and Río Bravo attended the scene along with Red Cross ambulances, to begin the assessment and transfer of the victims to area hospitals.
Five people reportedly died on scene, including the driver of the bus. The balance of deaths have since occurred in hospitals.
Elements of the National Guard and State Police cordoned off the area, while the remaining victims were freed from inside the bus. Traffic circulation was suspended in the area.
