Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police say Jhonatann “N” has been charged with the trafficking of persons in the form of prostitution. He is facing charges after, according to police, he manipulated, threatened and controlled his girlfriend into prostitution.
Jhonatann “N” was finally arrested on a warrant after the woman filed an official complaint against him. She made the complaint after being one in a group of women rescued from an establishment by police.
In a statement, police said “the events for which the now investigated is accused occurred when, in 2023, he met the victim who worked in the same company as him.
“They became friends and in November of that same year, they began a romantic relationship which the subject took advantage of to tell her that he would send her to work in Playa del Carmen to a better position within the company and thus earn more money.
“After that, his attitude toward her changed. He verbally and psychologically abused her threatening that if she didn’t do as he ordered her family would “pay.” He then told her she would have to provide sexual services with rates of 1,000 pesos an hour, 700 pesos for half an hour and 500 pesos for a “quick” offer. He then created a profile on Facebook to promote her.
“From then on, the victim began working as a sex worker under the constant control of Jhonatann “N,” who decided how much she charged for her services, as well as her outings with clients, her food and clothing and even her relationships with her family.
“Over time, the man demanded a minimum daily fee of 3,000 pesos and forced her to have sex with him, as she was his partner. His demands were so high that the victim agreed to perform 10 sexual acts in one day to avoid being beaten.
A judge has ordered the precautionary measure of preventive detention for Jhonatann “N”.
