Boxing coach, kids killed in Sonora highway accident

State of Sonora — A bus carrying young boxers and their coach was involved in an accident that left five dead at the scene.

The accident happened early Sunday along the Hermosillo-Nogales highway when the bus was returning from a tournament in Ciudad Obregón. Reports say the kid’s boxing coach, 61-year-old Jonathan Oros, along with four young boxers, were killed when the bus overturned.

Since the accident, four more young boxers have died as has the driver of the bus. Others injured in the crash remain in hospital. The boxers were a group of youth between the ages of 13 and 17.

A total of 29 people were traveling in the bus at the time of the accident. The bus belonged to the Municipal Sports Institute of Puerto Peñasco. There is no official report on the cause of the accident.
