Body of Holbox tourist found on second day of search and recovery efforts

Holbox, Q.R. — The body of a kayaker reported missing Saturday evening off the island of Holbox has been found. The body of the male, reported to be a tourist, was located during a continued search Sunday.

Search efforts were made Saturday and Sunday to find the missing kayaker May 24, 2026.

His disappearance was reported around 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening by fellow kayakers when he fell into the sea and did not resurface. According to reports, he was with a group of young kayakers when he fell into the water.

Authorities began a large search operation led by members of the Port Authority, Marina and Civil Protection that also included local boatmen.

During Saturday night and Sunday morning, search and rescue efforts were carried out in Punta Cocos, Punta Mosquito, Zomay and Casa Blanca. Drones were also used to expand the search area to locate the missing tourist.

It was around 10:00 a.m. Sunday when rescue teams located the body in the Punta Cocos area. After intense hours of searching by sea and air, authorities located the body in a low-lying area approximately two nautical miles offshore.

The young man, Jesús Manuel “N”, was an island tourist from Mexico City. His body was transported by boat to the port of Chiquilá to waiting medical personnel Sunday. Local authorities have not commented on the accident.
