Bacalar, Q.R. — The body of a man abducted from his Bacalar home Thursday night has been located. The 33-year-old male was forcefully removed from his home late Thursday by a group of armed men.
The man’s family notified authorities who found his body the following evening outside a funeral home. According to local media reports, his abduction is linked to the recent cocaine seizure off the coast of Mahahual.
The abduction happened at a home on 21st Avenue in the town of Bacalar around 11:00 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors reported the home was fired up before the armed men entered.
The group left with one of the home’s occupants identified as José “M” who was located around 8:00 p.m. Friday, less than 24 hours after being taken from his home.
Within the last two weeks, several speed boats transporting large amounts of cocaine have been seized in and around the southern coast of Mexico by different authorities. One of those recent drug busts happened off the coast of Mahahual.
On Saturday, the FGE confirmed the identity of the abducted man’s body found, however, authorities have not commented on local media speculation that the drug bust and now deceased were somehow connected.
