Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The body of a man found washed up on a beach in northern Playa del Carmen has been ruled a murder. In a briefing, officials say that the body found Sunday night was shot to death.
A call to Emergency 911 on Sunday by staff of a nearby hotel lead officials to the site where the report of a washed up body was seen. While initially reported by local media as being a drowning, it has since been clarified that it was the result of a shooting.
The identify of the man has not been revealed, only that he is in his 30s. It is believed that the man was shot to death then thrown into the sea. The original murder site is not known. Officials have not said how long they believe the body was in the water before washing up on the beach.
