Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Governor Carlos Joaquín González highlighted the tourism billboards being advertised in Times Square New York City for the various destinations of Quintana Roo.
Through his Twitter account, the governor announced eight of the most attractive municipalities in the state as optimal beach destinations to cold New Yorkers.
On his Twitter account, Carlos Joaquín wrote “#QuintanaRoo shines on @TimesSquareNYC! The turquoise blue of our Caribbean paradise stands out among the skyscrapers of #NuevaYork.”
Among the destinations promoted in New York were Cancun, Bacalar, Cozumel, Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya and Tulum. Joaquín González stressed the promotion was aimed at the state’s main tourist market, Americans.
The Secretary of Tourism, Marisol Vanegas, noted that the ads were also placed to reverse the decline of US travelers to Quintana Roo, adding that there could be as many as 27,000 fewer US visitors to the state this year, compared to last year.
However, tourism from other destinations such as Russia and Europe have increased.
