Matamoros, Campeche — A military diesel depot for Maya Train construction caught fire in Campeche Friday. The Secretary of National Defense says the cause of fire was a “bad loading procedure”.
The Ministry of National Defense reported on Saturday morning on the fire that occurred Friday at the National Defense Secretariat’s Collection Center. The fuel area of an isolated site used for the construction of the Maya Train caught fire. The fire was caused by a bad procedure in the loading of fuel from one of the tankers.
According to the Escárcega Fire Department, the fire occurred around 5:40 a.m. in the town of Matamoros, in the municipality of Escárcega, Campeche. Firefighters managed to put it out at 11:00 a.m. that same day.
The incident took place in the diesel storage area which caused damage to a stationary tank, three tankers and a bus. The Army, in collaboration with the National Guard, evacuated 25 people. No injuries were reported, according to the report.
Personnel from the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, in coordination with Civil Protection, have already started the relevant investigations to determine the exact cause.
