Bacalar, Q.R. — A Bacalar man was seriously injured Thursday when he slammed into the back of a parked semi. The man was driving a motorcycle and, according to witnesses, attempting to answer the phone at the time of the accident.
Other motorists stopped to help the injured man who was found laying on the pavement after hitting the back of the parked semi trailer. The accident was reported to police on the side of the federal highway.
Paramedics from the Bacalar Emergency Medical Rescue Group (GREM) responded. The driver, reported to be approximately 55, was rushed to the General Hospital.
Witnesses told police the man had his cell in his hand and was trying to answer it when he came upon the parked semi. He was unable to maneuver around the parked vehicle with only one hand and ended up hitting the back of it.
