Bacalar, Q.R. — Residents from the community of Sergio Butrón Casas blocked a section of the federal 186 highway. The group used cones to prevent vehicle passage Wednesday night out of frustration of being without power.
They gathered around 8:00 p.m. to demand the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) restore electricity after a power outage early in the morning. Angry residents said numerous reports have been made to the CFE who have not addressed their lack of service.
Residents from Nuevo Jerusalem and San Fernando, also in the municipality of Bacalar, were also affected by the lack of electricity. A CFE truck that was seen in their area Wednesday afternoon was held by the protestors, demanding a solution to the power problem.
The federal vehicle was eventually released, however, power was not restored, so they took to the highway. As of late Wednesday, residents reported no response from the CFE.
