Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen residential real estate project was shut down Tuesday after a worker fell to his death. Municipal Civil Protection closed the construction project after a worker fell from the top floor.

The residential project is being built in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood in central Playa del Carmen. On Tuesday, one of the men working on the project fell approximately 15 meters.
The incident occurred on 32nd Street near 25th Avenue when, according to other workers, the man slipped and fell over the side of the building. Other workers tried to help him when he was on the ground. Paramedics who responded to the request for assistance pronounced the worker dead at the scene.

Police secured the area while Civil Protection personnel proceeded to shut down the construction site after detecting alleged workplace safety violations. Initial investigations indicate that the worker was not wearing safety gear.
