Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal officials have shut down an illegal cryotherapy service. The group offering the cold water therapy service have been located on several beaches around the city.

Irving Rafael Lili Madrigal, the General Director of Zofemat (Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone), said the group were there for profit and did not have permits.
On Wednesday, municipal officials from Zofemat (Zona Federal Marítimo Terrestre) removed the illegal structures from a public beach. Lili Madrigal warned that in the event of a repeat offense, police will be notified.
“They have no permits or authorizations. No written documents or requests have been received by the Directorate or the Secretariat,” he said.
The illegal service was closed after operating on public beaches for several weeks. Citizen complaints eventually lead municipal officials to locate it and shut it down.

According to Lili Madrigal, the illegal seawater and ice therapy service was set up on Playas Fundadores, Mamitas, Constituyentes and Playa 72.
