Villaflores, Chiapas — The Attorney General’s Office of Chiapas says they rescued 39 live crocodiles being transported in a plastic container. Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police were alerted by means of a citizen complaint about the transport of the small reptiles.
A group of federal elements arrived at a taxi stand in the municipality of Villaflores, where they located a blue plastic container with 39 live crocodiles in water. Since the species are subject to special protection (Official Mexican Standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010), the driver of the taxi was arrested, while the container of crocodiles was transferred to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection for attention and care.
