Chiapa de Corzo , Tuxtla Gutiérrez — Immigration authorities report more than 230 people were rescued from subhuman conditions while traveling in smuggling vehicles.
State police reported that a group of 234 migrants traveling in subhuman conditions distributed between four vehicles were rescued in the ejido Rivera las Flechas in the municipality of Chiapa de Corzo in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
During the operation, Policía Estatal Preventiva were also able to arrest eight Mexican nationals in the smuggling scheme.
The Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana reported that on Tuesday, 234 people from Guatemala, Ecuador and El Salvador, none of whom had legal paperwork to be in the country, were rescued from the vehicles.
All 234 were given food and medication by Mexican authorities before being handed over to the Instituto Nacional de Migración.
