Authorities arrest 8 and seize 250,000 liters of stolen Pemex fuel

Perote, Veracruz — Federal authorities have arrested eight men and seized 250,000 liters of illegal hydrocarbons. The seizure took place at a facility disguised as a company that handled hazardous waste.

Authorities learned, however, that it was used for the storage and sale of illegal hydrocarbons. A large operation that also included Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), personnel, lead to the arrests of eight people.

At the scene, authorities also seized 250,000 liters of fuel, 12 tanker trucks of different capacities, a property, electronic devices and various documents.

The operation was carried out after learning that a hazardous waste management company was being used as a front for the storage and sale of illegal hydrocarbons.

During the inspection of the property, the men were arrested and, along with the fuel, vehicles and other seized items, were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Prosecutor.

Authorities reported that the seized assets represent an estimated economic impact of 247,581,164 pesos on organized crime. Police did not say how long the illegal facade had been in operation.
