Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Municipal Police in Playa del Carmen have arrested three people after their alleged attempted robbery of a person leaving a bank in the Ejido area of the city.
Elements of la Secretaría de Seguridad Pública and Tránsito Municipal of Solidaridad made the arrests after repelling a firearm assault that led to a pursuit through city streets. In a statement, it was reported that while on preventive patrolling surveillance, Municipal Police were notified of a robbery in progress. As they approached the area, they noticed three people running along avenida Constituyentes.
One of the officers descended from the unit and was able to intercept a male, while the other two boarded a compact vehicle from where several shots were aimed at police in an attempt to free their captured companion.
The officer then returned fire, however, all three fled in the compact vehicle that lead police on a city chase that ended in them abandoning their car and attempting to hide in nearby brush. Policías Municipales found all three hiding among weeds along 135th Avenue.
The trio were arrested. A search of their vehicle revealed a gun. The backpack of one of the arrested revealed a second gun, ammunition and cell phone. A briefcase stolen from the bank robbery victim was also recovered.
One woman and two men were taken into custody and held for the Attorney General of the State.
