Arrests made in deadly Playa del Carmen attack

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three men have been arrested as suspects in an armed attack that left one person dead and two injured during a targeted Playa del Carmen shooting.

Police were registered in Marsella, Las Palmas II, Catalonia, Los Olivos and Ciudad Natura subdivisions while trying to locate those responsible for the Arco Vial shooting that left two injured and one dead.

The target attack happened around noon Wednesday when three men inside a compact car were fired upon by three men in an oncoming vehicle. According to information from the Municipal Secretariat of Public Safety and Traffic, police officers in the vicinity of Avenida 30 heard the gunfire and reacted. Those responsible allegedly fled, but were pursued by police.

The vehicle was headed toward the Marseille subdivision during the chase, at which time, the driver of the vehicle shot toward police who reportedly repelled with a warning shot in the air. One of the men from inside the car attempted to flee on foot into nearby brush, but was located and arrested.

Taken into police custody were Pedro N and Antonio N, along with 49-year-old Jonathan N of Guerrero, who was injured during his arrest and taken to hospital.
