Arrest made in central Playa del Carmen bar shooting

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An arrest has been made in a central Playa del Carmen bar shooting that left one women injured. The shooting happened just after midnight Thursday at a centrally located club along Fifth Avenue.

One woman, a 36-year-old patron of the club, was reportedly injured after a bullet grazed her leg. The injured woman is reported to be Nawanjali “S”, a visitor from Canada. She was taken to hospital where she was treated and released voluntarily.

After the shooting, police activated a Red Code search operation that lead to the arrest. The alleged male shooter, identifed as 36-year-old Raúl “N”, was captured on 24th Street between 15th and 20th Avenues. He is reported to be a native of Tabasco.

On Thursday, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported on the arrest of a suspect they identified as Carlos Mario “N” and/or Raúl “N”.

In a news briefing, the FGE said “after the firearm attack against an establishment located on 12th Street and Fifth Avenue in the municipality of Solidaridad, the FGE reports that the attack left as collateral damage an injured female person of foreign origin, who was transferred to a private hospital in the municipality, where, after her medical evaluation, she requested her discharge voluntarily.

“Municipal security authorities and the Navy made Carlos Mario “N” and/or Raúl “N” available to the Prosecutor’s Office for his probable participation in this attack.

“At the time of capture, the subject was seized with a firearm as well as useful and percussion cartridges,” the FGE said in their statement.
