Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three people were arrested from the west side of Playa del Carmen Wednesday after reports of armed men. Police began a search operation for the men after citizen reports that they were seen along Iris Avenue.
In a statement, the SSP of Solidaridad clarified that they stopped a taxi that was seen being driven erratically. At the command to stop, the driver accelerated but eventually did stop, which is when two men from inside got out and ran.
The two individuals were captured attempting to flee the area on foot through nearby jungle. One was located in jungle vegetation after suffering a foot injury during his attempted escape. He was transferred to hospital.
The second was arrested after he made it through the jungle vegetation to another street of the Mision de las Flores subdivision were officers were waiting. A third person, a taxi driver, was also taken into police custody.
A search of the three men and the taxi revealed 80 bags of drugs and one loaded handgun. The SSP of Solidaridad reports the arrested were Oswaldo “N”, 34 from Mérida, Daniel “N”, 21 from Mexico City and their taxi driver, 39-year-old Miguel N from Yucatan.
