Cozumel, Q.R. — The holiday season recorded an average of 10,000 passengers a day using the island to mainland ferry services. After the holidays, authorities report those figures are still high.
According to Reyes Joaquín Canché Chay, operations coordinator at the Cozumel Comprehensive Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), docks averaged 10,000 passengers a day in December. However, from the 22 to the 31, those numbers rose to 13,000, he said.
Now that the holiday season has ended, the focus is on cruise ships with 33 scheduled to arrive during the first nine days of the year. Apiqroo is anticipating an 80 percent pre-pandemic cruise ship recovery during 2022.
