Another incident reported at the Pemex-owned Port of Salina Cruz refinery

Port of Salina Cruz, Oaxaca — Minutes before midnight Saturday, a massive fire erupted at the Antonio Dovalí Jaime refinery in the port of Salina Cruz. Firemen were able to control the blaze, which according to Civil Protection, did not generate injuries.

According to personnel of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the accident occurred in the heat exchanges of the primary plant number 2. Reports say the fire started in a oil tank which immediately deployed safety devices. For this reason, damage was minimal and workers, not injured.

The director of Salina Cruz Civil Protection, Francisco Avendaño Mendoza, said that the fire was put out quickly, eliminating risk to plant workers and the public, calling the incident “fast and controlled”.

It is the third incident to occur at the Pemex Salina Cruz refinery in less than two years. On August 4, the refinery celebrated its 42nd year in operation. It is considered the largest oil processor in the country.
