Mérida, Yucatán — An American citizen wanted on drug and money laundering charges in the US. has been arrested in Mérida by elements of the National Guard.
In a joint operation between Mexico and the U.S., authorities say they have arrested an American male subject who is wanted in the state of Virginia.
The detention is the result of a request for support by the U.S Marshals Service to locate the man who, according to their investigations, was in Mérida. His detainment took place between elements of la Guardia Nacional and officers of la Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM).
The detainee, who has not been identified, was transferred to INM facilities where he was handed over to U.S. authorities to continue with his legal process.
