Zihuatanejo, Guerrero — An American tourist who was attacked by a shark on Manzanillo de Troncones Beach has been hospitalized with injuries to his right thigh.
The attack occurred in waters in the municipality of La Unión in the Costa Grande de Guerrero region Saturday afternoon.
According to a report from la Secretaría de Protección Civil Estatal, the young man has been identified as Alex Wilton who was staying at the Sereno hotel.
According to the report, Wilton was surfing when he was bitten by the shark. He was transferred by the owner of the hotel to the Mediciel private clinic. Upon arrival, medical personnel treated a 20 cm gash to his right thigh.
“Staff of Protección Civil Estatal have since given direct follow-up to this case with the locals and fishermen of Playas Troncones to reinforce, if necessary, the corresponding preventive measures with bathers, because this area is open sea and in past years, there have been events of people injured by shark attacks,” the agency said.
