American part of trio arrested in Playa del Carmen jewelry heist

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three men were captured in a failed escape Monday after robbing a Playa del Carmen jewelry store. Municipal Police arrested three individuals accused of stealing more than 300 pieces of jewelry from a Fifth Avenue store.

Elements of the Tourist Police were on patrol at Fifth Avenue and 38th Street when a person hailed them for help. She told police that three subjects had forced the doors open where she worked and taken jewelry.

She said during the robbery, several customers watched them and were able to provide descriptions of the three men.

“With the characteristics provided, officers implemented a search operation, managing to locate the subjects on 42nd Street between First Avenue and Cozumel Street in the Zazil-Ha neighborhood,” the Seguridad Pública Solidaridad reported in a statement.

Three men identified as Carlos “N”, 33 from Mexico City, Alfredo “N”, 34 from Coahuila and Jefrey ” N”, 68 years from the United States, were arrested. The trio of alleged thieves were found in possession of 305 pieces of jewelry.
