Cozumel, Q.R. — The mayor of Cozumel says they have received the first Miami-Cozumel flight of the year and anticipate the start of the Houston-Cozumel flight route soon.
Cozumel mayor Pedro Joaquín says passengers from the first Miami-Cozumel flight with American Airlines landed. He says the airline has resumed its seasonal operations, which landed its first winter flight at the Cozumel International Airport.
He added that they are also anticipating the Houston-Cozumel route with Southwest to begin arriving with visitors from the United States. He says the routes will allow thousands of tourists to arrive directly to Cozumel to enjoy the natural beauties of the paradise island.
The Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Pedro Hermosillo López, stressed that so far this year, an increase of 3.8 percent has been reported in the arrival of visitors to the island.
He added that the new flight will arrive five days a week, and beginning the end of November, and will arrive daily until March of 2020.
The administrator of the international airport of Cozumel, Jorge Carlos Campos Romero, stressed that there was an important change in the current administration, which has given a lot more attention to air connectivity with a strong promotion of the destination.
He said he hopes to maintain the work scheme to find new markets and strengthen the operation of the airport.
On hand for the American Airlines landing was the President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism for Cozumel, Eduardo Morales and Pablo Aguilar, island representative for the Tourism Promotion Council.
