Alternate Playa del Carmen road to be ready in two weeks

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Traffic chaos continues as authorities construct secondary roads between Cancun and Tulum. Raúl Bermúdez, head of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) Cancun office says that in two weeks, mobility along the Federal 307 Highway will improve as two more lanes come into operation.

He says the new lanes will reduce the congestion affects experienced by the work being carried out at the Playa del Carmen sinkhole.

The official said that three solutions are being worked on. The immediate solution that will be ready in two weeks which consists of having two more lanes. An alternate four-lane road, which will be ready in a month, and finally the repair of the sinkhole area, which will be completed before November.

The four-lane alternate road will be 24-kilometers long under the high-voltage lines and will be interconnected starting at the junction of the Ruta de los Cenotes at Puerto Morelos until reaching the entrance of Playa del Carmen.
