Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A taxi driver who was allegedly under the influence has been taken into police custody after hitting and dragging a motorcycle carrying two passengers.
The accident happened on Avenida Constituyentes when the taxi driver belonging to the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río drivers’ union hit the couple on the motorcycle, dragging them several meters before the bike was finally dislodged.
Witnesses told police that after the bike was hit the female was thrown off, but the driver of the taxi continued to drive with the male passenger still attached to the motorcycle. They reported that he was eventually able to jump off when the taxi slowed down for a roundabout.
The young woman suffered a fractured leg and the man, shoulder and back injuries.
Witnesses followed the taxi driver until police arrived. He was then returned to the scene of the accident where he was officially arrested. The couple were transported to IMSS for medical treatment.
